NEW backup / restore routine
The preferred backup and restore utility of APIS, is the ApisBare - Backup and Restore Tool
Please refer to this section for backup and restore routines.
OLD and Deprecated backup / restore routine
If a critical disk crash or failure occurs, it may be necessary to restore an Apis Honeystore database from backup. Such an incident is indicated by Apis Honeystore, when it cannot open or access the database files as it needs, through an error message in the log viewer in Apis Management Studio and a flashing tray icon.
This section describes how to restore a database from backup media, onto the same Windows installation as the backup was created. If you need to restore onto another or fresh Windows installation, pleas refer to the section Recreating a database as well.
Stop running Apis applications
Before you start restoring, you must stop the applications accessing and using your databases. When used together with Apis Hive, you must stop this application. Then .
Note! If the computer is available on a network for remote database users, you should temporarily set the startup modes of these two services (Apis Honeystore/Apis OPCHDA ) as Disabled, to prevent remote users starting up the services of while you are in the middle of a restore operation.
When restoring databases, you can either restore all the files from your backup (complete restore), or study the log viewer in Apis Management Studio to determine which files that are corrupt, and only restore those files (selective restore). The first case is by far the easiest and less time-consuming, but if the database contains data of great importance or only a few files has been damaged, it may be desirable to only restore as few files as possible from the backup tape.
Complete restore
Using your preferred restore application, restore all the files that you included in your backup, as described in section Backup.
Selective restore – file by file
To decide which files that need to be restored, you must examine the log viewer in Apis Management Studio to locate all the files that cannot be open or read. Then, from your restore application, restore only the necessary files. This can be a very time-consuming procedure and demands greater computer skills than the complete restore alternative.
Restart Apis applications
When you have finished restoring the database files, you can start the Apis Honeystore services again. Then, after the services has been started, you should examine the log viewer in Apis Management Studio for error messages, to ensure that your restore operation was successful.
At last, other applications writing/reading data from Apis Honeystore can be started.
